Frequently asked questions
How is the GPA calculated?
Each grade point value is multiplied by course credits. Total quality points are divided by total credits.
Is the default scale universal?
No. It is a transparent common 4.0-style scale. Institutions can use different plus/minus values and policies.
How many courses can I add?
This version supports up to 30 course rows with finite credits from 0 through 100 per row.
Are course names or grades saved?
No. Course data remains in the current browser page and is not stored or sent to analytics.
Practical guide
Calculate a credit-weighted GPA with a visible 4.0 scale
Each course contributes grade points multiplied by its credits. The calculator adds those quality points and divides by total credits. The default scale is displayed beside the tool so the mapping is never implicit.
The provided A through F mapping is one common 4.0-style model, not a universal standard. Institutional rules can differ on plus/minus values, repeated courses, pass/fail work and rounding.
Worked example
Weight two courses by credits
- Start with
- Course A: 3 credits at A (4.0). Course B: 4 credits at B (3.0).
- Choose
- Calculate GPA with the visible default scale.
- You get
- Quality points are 24 over 7 credits, giving GPA 3.429 at three-decimal display precision.
Tips for a useful result
- Use the credit value reported by the institution.
- Check the displayed mapping before relying on a grade letter.
- Course names are optional and stay in the browser.
Limits and privacy
This version supports up to 30 course rows. Credits are bounded finite values, total credits must be greater than zero, and the result is displayed to three decimal places.
Schools and universities may use different GPA scales and policies. Check your institution’s official grading rules. Course data is not stored or transmitted.
