Simple workflow

How to use Grade & Final Grade Calculator

  1. 1Choose Weighted grade or Final grade needed.
  2. 2Enter percentages and the exact weights used by the course.
  3. 3Calculate and inspect the contribution or required-final formula.

Frequently asked questions

Are incomplete weights normalized?

No. If entered weights total less than 100%, the tool labels the result as the contribution entered so far.

How is the required final grade calculated?

It solves desired grade = current grade × completed weight + final score × final weight.

What if the required final is above 100%?

The calculation is shown and labelled not achievable under the entered model. It is not treated as academic advice.

Does the calculator follow my school's rounding policy?

Only if that policy is already reflected in your inputs. Schools can round, curve or drop work differently.

Practical guide

Calculate weighted grades or a mathematical final-exam target

Weighted mode multiplies each category percentage by its weight and adds the contributions. When weights total less than 100%, the calculator reports the entered contribution without silently normalizing it.

Final-grade mode solves Desired = Current × completed weight + Required × final weight. Completed and final weights must total 100%, and the result is a mathematical target rather than academic advice.

Worked example

Combine three weighted categories

Start with
Homework 90% at 30%, midterm 80% at 30%, final 70% at 40%.
Choose
Choose Weighted grade.
You get
27 + 24 + 28 = 79%.

Tips for a useful result

  • Enter the grading weights from the official syllabus.
  • An above-100% target is labelled not achievable under the inputs.
  • A negative required score means the target is already secured mathematically under the model.

Institutional rules and privacy

The calculator does not account for dropped assignments, curves, extra credit or institution-specific rounding unless those effects are already reflected in the entered percentages.
