Frequently asked questions

How do I choose the background for a transparent WebP?

Use Transparency background to choose the solid colour placed behind transparent pixels. White is the default. JPG cannot retain transparency, so inspect the result against your intended background before downloading.

Can I convert an animated WebP to an animated JPG?

No. The output is one static JPG image. This tool does not preserve animation or export a sequence of frames. It is intended for a still image that a JPG-only destination can accept.

Does a high JPG Quality restore detail lost in the WebP?

No. Conversion cannot recover detail missing from the decoded source. A higher Quality can reduce additional JPG compression effects, but it does not restore the original photograph. Inspect fine details after converting.

Why is my JPG larger than the WebP source?

The WebP may already store the image efficiently, and JPG uses a different encoding. Conversion makes a JPG version rather than guaranteeing a smaller file. Compare Size change and try a lower Quality if the result remains suitable for your use.

Practical guide

Make a WebP image usable where JPG is required

WebP to JPG is useful when a document editor or upload form requires JPG. Choose a JPG quality level, create the result and check both appearance and output size. The conversion keeps the decoded image's pixel dimensions; choosing a higher quality setting does not increase resolution.

For a WebP with transparent areas, select the background colour you want in the JPG. Opaque pixels keep their visible content, while transparent and partly transparent areas are composited onto that colour. Keep the source if you may need its transparency again.

Worked example

Use a WebP illustration on a cream document

Start with
illustration.webp is a static 900 ร— 600 image with a transparent border.
Choose
Set Quality to 90%, choose cream (#fff8e7) in Transparency background and select Convert to JPG.
You get
utilsprout-converted.jpg measures 900 ร— 600 pixels, with the transparent border replaced by the chosen cream background.

Tips for a useful result

  • Choose the background to match the document where the JPG will appear, then inspect the illustration's edges.
  • Compare the displayed file sizes; converting an efficient WebP to JPG may produce a larger file.
  • For a destination with a pixel-size limit, use Image Resizer on the WebP and select JPG as its output.
