Frequently asked questions
Is this a DPI setting?
No. The options are browser raster scales relative to PDF points, not claims about embedded physical DPI metadata.
How are large PDFs handled?
Selected pages render one at a time, canvases are released after export, and the operation can be cancelled. Up to 40 pages can be rendered per run.
Is the PDF uploaded?
No. PDF.js, PNG encoding and ZIP creation run in this browser.
Practical guide
Render only the PDF pages you need
PDF.js renders selected pages sequentially and the browser encodes each canvas as PNG. A single page downloads directly; multiple pages are placed in a ZIP after rendering.
The presets are raster scale factors, not embedded DPI claims. Higher scales increase detail and memory quickly, so every page is checked against a 24-megapixel canvas limit and each canvas is released after use.
Worked example
Export two diagram pages
- Start with
- manual.pdf contains 12 pages.
- Choose
- Enter 2,7 and choose High · 2×.
- You get
- page-002.png and page-007.png are created in a local ZIP.
Tips for a useful result
- Select only necessary pages.
- Lower the scale for unusually large pages.
- PNG is useful for line art but can be larger for photographs.
