Does the crop use the full-resolution image?
Yes. The on-screen canvas is only a preview. Export uses the crop coordinates against the original decoded pixels.
Which aspect ratios are available?
Use free crop or choose 1:1, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9, 9:16 or 4:5. Exact pixel fields remain available for precise work.
Can I keep transparency?
Choose PNG or WebP for transparent areas. JPEG cannot store transparency and uses a white background.
Is the image uploaded?
No. Decoding, cropping, transforms and encoding use browser APIs on your device.
Practical guide
Crop from original pixels while using a responsive preview
The preview is scaled to fit the screen, but its coordinates map back to the source bitmap. Drag outside the current selection to draw a new crop, inside it to move, or a corner handle to resize. Exact fields show the source-pixel rectangle.
Aspect presets are useful for square avatars, 4:5 posts, 9:16 stories and 16:9 video thumbnails. A quarter-turn swaps output width and height. PNG and WebP can retain transparency, while JPEG fills transparent areas with white.
Worked example
Make a 4:5 portrait crop
- Start with
- A 3000 × 2000 landscape photo.
- Choose
- Choose 4:5, move the selection over the subject, export JPEG at 90% quality.
- You get
- The crop is encoded from the selected original pixels rather than from the smaller preview.
Tips for a useful result
- Use the number fields when a form specifies exact pixel dimensions.
- Keep the original when exporting a lossy JPEG or WebP.
- A crop removes pixels outside the selection; it does not stretch the selected area.
Browser limits and privacy
Supported JPG, PNG and WebP files are limited to 25 MB and 40 megapixels to bound decoding and Canvas memory. The image never leaves the device.
